The Problem

35 Grosvenor Street in Mayfair, London, offers high-quality, flexible office spaces, including private offices and co-working areas. The building features luxurious interiors, a modern reception area, and amenities such as fully equipped kitchens, breakout spaces, and many other premium facilities designed to enhance productivity and comfort.

They had issues with mobile signal reception, affecting both staff and visitors. Both experienced dropped calls and bad connections, making communication and task completion more difficult. Improving mobile signal would help ensure smoother communication and boost productivity.

We were contracted to provide a mobile signal booster for the office spaces with an approximate coverage area of 2000sqf. The requirement was to boost the mobile signal for all four UK mobile networks across the building.

The SOLUTION

SITE SURVEY STAGE

The first phase of an Amplifi-Qx installation requires a comprehensive site survey to assess the extent of the mobile signal coverage issues. This was carried out by our team of signal engineers and a final report was passed onto the customer.

The Amplifi-Qx Digital solution was chosen to address the signal issues at 35 Grosvenor Street, implementing the new CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 mobile signal booster. The CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 is known for its reliability and capacity to deliver consistent and high-quality mobile signal coverage. This system included the following components:

  • Network Unit: The central hub of the system responsible for connecting to the external mobile network and distributing the signal internally.
  • Coverage Units (3): These units were strategically placed throughout the office space to ensure comprehensive coverage. Each coverage unit extended the signal to a specific area, minimising signal dead zones.
  • Internal Antennas (21): These antennas were discreetly installed within the office to provide reliable signal coverage across various departments and workspaces.
  • External Antennas (4): We installed some external antennas on the outside of the building to capture the strongest possible mobile signals from nearby cell towers, ensuring reliable indoor connectivity.

Installation challenges

The installation of the CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 solution at 35 Grosvenor Street presented several challenges. Coordinating with various trades at different stages was essential to complete the work efficiently. Additionally, specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and a detailed rescue plan were required for the roof work. This work necessitated a permit and the use of safety harnesses to ensure the protection of the installation team. These precautions were vital in addressing the complexities of installing the mobile signal booster system safely and effectively.

The Result

Our Amplifi-Qx signal solution has enabled the building to support multiple carriers and technologies, ensuring that guests can use their preferred mobile service provider. The mobile signal coverage needs have been met, resulting in a positive impact on guest satisfaction and overall customer experience.

Immediate results

Guests and staff now have reliable and consistent cellular coverage throughout the office , with no dropped calls or poor connectivity issues. 

Signal reading comparison

On completion of any installation we’ll always walk around the building to test the signal in various locations – comparing the boosted signal to the original signal readings.

We use professional signal testing equipment to take dBm readings (decibel milliwatts) – we then compare these to the pre-install readings to calculate the increase in mobile signal. A really good dBm reading will be somewhere between -70dBm and -90dBm… the closer to zero the better!
